Well this is it. I am launching my blog about the writing of “The Marco Polo Table” – that’s the working title, anyway. It is a children’s book, fiction based on a blend of my family history, and historical events in the late 1800s in the Maritime Provinces. Is it going to change the world? Who knows? If it can open one child to the marvelous adventures that can be found in history, how tables are built or the shipping history in the Atlantic Provinces, then maybe that is enough. Around the world we see how literacy does change the world by opening us to worlds and thinking outside our own personal direct experience. In this context, it also lets children know that there was a time before electricity and computers. That is needed, too.
I love to help children to grow. As a preschool teacher, music therapist, aunt, step-mom, psychotherapist, I love to help children grow up to be healthier, happier, better able to resource their inner strengths and sense of their self. So if I can change the world by supporting children…perhaps your child…through this brief glimpse into the history of my family in connection with this table, which has been in our family since it was made, then, great! Let’s bring it on!
I hope you enjoy my blogs around the creation of “The Marco Polo Table.”
